REDBRIDGE TO
MATTAWA - THE POLELINE

Songis Rd. is located just before you get to Redbridge which
is about 25 km North of North Bay on Hwy. 63. Take Songis Rd. for 14 km and then you will
see the skidoo trail which will take you to the poleline. The trail is easy to miss if you’re
driving too fast and you can see it pointed out below.

Once
you jump on the skidoo trail just keep driving until you get to the
poleline and then take a right onto it.
The trail will take you all the way to Mattawa zigzagging on and off
the poleline every couple hundred yards. It’s approx. 55km from the
beginning of Songis Rd.
to Mattawa and takes about 2.5 hours being that the trail is so rugged and
rocky.
Just stick to the road and eventually it will take
you all the way to Mattawa.

However,
no matter where you go there’s always a little bit of mud to play in!

The following shot is next to Cahill Lake which is
just next to the poleline.

I like to stick to the road out here but Primer
doesn’t as you can see below!

When
you come to a main road turn right and you’re 20 minutes away from
Mattawa. You’ll need to cross a
bridge that may be closed down and have a sign prohibiting travel across
it, but we took caution and crossed it anyway. We had come so far we weren’t about to
turn around there!
The bridge was pretty unsafe back then but is all
fixed now. The Ontario Government prohibits me from crossing it that
summer. But F#$K them!
I crossed it anyway!

Like I said, the bridge was in pretty bad shape!

But I made it safely and here are a few nice shots
of Mattawa
